Robert's Story
Life
After High School, I got a two year scholarship to the Detroit College of Business. It was not what I was expecting to happen, but it turned out to be a blessing...I met my wife Barbara there, and we've had 40 great years together! After leaving Taylor in 1969 for a four year tour in the USAF, We moved to Tampa Fl. Lived there 6 weeks and moved to Valdosta Ga, to work for the Federal Aviation Administration. During the 30 + years I worked in the FAA, I spent time in Illinois (Peoria, Springfield, and Moline), Maryland (Frederick), Georgia (Valdosta and Atlanta), Texas (Ft. Worth), and Alaska (Anchorage). I retired after spending six years in Alaska and moved to Florida! Had a great time driving down from Anchorage (via ferry boat to Bellingham, WA, down the west coast and across the southwest to FL. It was a 30 + day trip, and got to see many of the great landmarks across the USA. Space Needle, Crater Lake, the Sequoia's, Napa Valley wine country, Golden Gate Bridge, Zion Natl Park, Grand Cany...Expand for more
on, Roswell, New Orleans, San Antonio, Mobile.....a vacation of a lifetime for me!
During the 54th year of my life (still in the FAA) I had to have a triple by-pass operation. I was very lucky in that no damage to my heart had occurred. Retired at 55, to say the least! After I moved to Florida, I went back to work very part time consulting with the FAA in developing and purchasing new Instrument Landing Systems.
Currently Married with three sons, 4 grandchildren, and a ton of great memories. Hope to reconnect with the many good friends I made in Taylor!
Come on down to Florida to say hello!
Military
I joined the USAF and flew from Detroit to Texas for basic training in 1969. Gary Callahan signed up with me, but he got out before I did! I went through Hurricane Camile in Biloxi (1969), and then spent the rest of my time at K.I. Sawyer in the UP of Michigan. That was a real adventure! I got out in '73 and moved to Florida. My training and experience in the Air Force got me started with the FAA!
